Kontogialos Beach

The shoreline is predominantly sand. The sandy sections are comfortable for anyone planning to spend several hours on the beach. The generous stretch of shoreline gives you more room to spread out than at Corfu's smaller coves and makes it a good option if you enjoy beach walks as well as swimming.

Entry to the sea is gradual and relatively shallow near the shoreline. Waves can develop when the weather changes, so it is worth judging the sea on the day rather than assuming it will always be flat.

This beach is particularly well suited to families, swimming, sunsets and watersports. If you can stay into the evening, it is also a good setting for watching the sunset.

Facilities

There are organised sections in season, making it easier to settle in for a full beach day. Organised sections offer seasonal sunbeds and parasols, with open areas for visitors using their own towels. Several beachfront tavernas and cafés serve food and drinks. Seasonal paddleboards, pedal boats and other watersports are available. Useful beach amenities include toilets, showers and changing facilities.

Getting there and practical information

A small paid car park near the beach can fill quickly in peak season. Road access descends from Pelekas to the beach. The final road from Pelekas is steep; the beach itself is flat once reached. Corfu City Bus route 11 serves Pelekas village; from there it is roughly a 20-minute downhill walk to the beach.

Planning your visit

For a full beach day, late morning through the afternoon gives you the best chance of finding seasonal services operating, although this is also when organised beaches are busiest. Parking is generally easier before the main lunchtime rush. If sunset is one of the reasons you are visiting, plan to stay beyond the main beach-going hours rather than leaving in mid-afternoon.
