Kouloura Beach

Food or drink is available at the beach or immediately nearby.

What to expect

The shoreline is predominantly a mixture of pebble and rock. Beach shoes can be useful, particularly when entering and leaving the water. It is a compact beach, which gives it an intimate feel but means space can become limited at the busiest times of day.

Swimming and sea conditions

Water clarity is one of the attractions here, especially on calm days. The bay is relatively sheltered, which can help keep conditions more settled than on exposed stretches of coast. Snorkelling is another reason to consider it, especially around rocky edges or clearer sections away from the busiest swimmers.

Who this beach suits

This beach is particularly well suited to swimming, scenic views and seaside dining. Its quieter character is part of the appeal, particularly if you want to get away from the island's busier resort beaches.

Facilities

This is essentially an unorganised beach, so it suits visitors who are happy with a simpler, more natural setup. Do not rely on finding sunbed hire, so bringing your own towel, shade or beach umbrella can be worthwhile. A traditional fish taverna is located on the waterfront. Facilities are limited, so do not assume that toilets, showers and changing facilities will be available.

Road access reaches Kouloura harbour, followed by short foot access to the shoreline. Pebble/rock access and the small harbour setting can be awkward for limited mobility.

Planning your visit

If you are visiting in July or August, arriving earlier in the day usually gives you more choice of space at a compact beach like this.

Choose it if peace, scenery and a more natural shoreline matter more to you than organised facilities.
