Rocky swimming cove / sea-access platform
A famous rocky swimming cove below a beach bar, with deep turquoise water, snorkelling and cliff-jump style sea access.
La Grotta has a rock shoreline. Reached by a long flight of steps from the road above.
The beach is organised or has organised sections in season. Food or drink is available at the beach or immediately nearby. Seasonal sunbeds are available.
La Grotta is a rocky swimming cove rather than a conventional beach; it is included because it is a significant Corfu swimming destination.
What to expect
The shoreline is predominantly rock. Beach shoes can be useful, particularly when entering and leaving the water. This is more of a swimming cove than a conventional beach, so the attraction is the water and setting rather than a broad area for sunbathing.
Swimming and sea conditions
The water becomes deep comparatively quickly, which confident swimmers often appreciate but families with very young children should keep in mind. Water clarity is one of the attractions here, especially on calm days. Snorkelling is another reason to consider it, especially around rocky edges or clearer sections away from the busiest swimmers. It is less naturally suited to very young children than Corfu's broad, shallow sandy beaches.
Who this beach suits
This beach is particularly well suited to swimming, snorkelling, scenic views and adults.
Facilities
There are organised sections in season, making it easier to settle in for a full beach day. Seasonal sunbeds and parasols are available; prices and operating dates vary by provider. Food and drink are available at the beach or within a short walk; opening can be seasonal.
Getting there and practical information
Reached by a long flight of steps from the road above. Not suitable for visitors with significant mobility limitations because of the steps and rocky sea access.
Planning your visit
If you are visiting in July or August, arriving earlier in the day usually gives you more choice of space at a compact beach like this.
Is it the right beach for you?
Choose it if clear-water swimming and time in the sea are more important than a large resort-style setup.
