Porto Timoni

There is no road to the beach. The usual land route is a steep, rocky walk from Afionas, commonly taking around 25 to 35 minutes on the descent, with a demanding climb back to the village. Proper footwear, water and sun protection are strongly recommended.

The two coves are unorganised and there are no normal beach facilities, food outlets or shade services at the shoreline. Visitors should take everything they need and carry all waste back out.

The clear, sheltered coves are particularly attractive for swimming and snorkelling. Despite the remote setting, Porto Timoni is now very popular and can become busy around midday in peak summer.

What to expect

The shoreline is predominantly a mixture of pebble, shingle and mixed. Beach shoes can be useful, particularly when entering and leaving the water. It is a compact beach, which gives it an intimate feel but means space can become limited at the busiest times of day.

Swimming and sea conditions

The water becomes deep comparatively quickly, which confident swimmers often appreciate but families with very young children should keep in mind. The setting is comparatively sheltered and the sea is often calm in settled summer weather, although conditions can always change. Snorkelling is another reason to consider it, especially around rocky edges or clearer sections away from the busiest swimmers. It is less naturally suited to very young children than Corfu's broad, shallow sandy beaches.

This beach is particularly well suited to swimming, snorkelling, hiking, photography and scenic views.

Facilities

This is essentially an unorganised beach, so it suits visitors who are happy with a simpler, more natural setup. Do not rely on finding sunbed hire, so bringing your own towel, shade or beach umbrella can be worthwhile. There are no dependable food or drink facilities right on the shoreline, so take water and anything else you may need. Facilities are limited, so do not assume that toilets, showers and changing facilities will be available.

Getting there and practical information

There is no beach parking. Visitors arriving by car park in or around Afionas and continue on foot. Access is by a steep, rocky walking trail from Afionas or by boat from the Agios Georgios Pagon area. The path is exposed to the sun and requires suitable footwear. Not suitable for wheelchair users or visitors with significant mobility limitations because of the steep rocky trail and natural shoreline. No direct public transport reaches the beach.

Planning your visit

If you are visiting in July or August, arriving earlier in the day usually gives you more choice of space at a compact beach like this. Because refreshments are limited, bring drinking water and anything else you are likely to need before making the final approach.
