The red open-top sightseeing buses are one of the easiest ways to get an overview of Corfu Town and several of its best-known sights without having to plan every journey yourself. This guide explains how the Corfu City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off service works, where it goes, when it runs and what first-time visitors should know before buying a ticket.

What is the Corfu hop-on hop-off bus?

City Sightseeing Corfu operates a tourist sightseeing service linking Corfu New Port, Corfu Town and major visitor attractions. A hop-on hop-off ticket lets you leave the bus at participating stops, explore, and then continue your journey on a later service during the validity of your ticket.

The current combined service covers two routes: the Corfu City / Kanoni Line and the Corfu City / Achilleion Line. The operator currently advertises a 24-hour ticket covering both routes, multilingual recorded commentary in eight languages and panoramic sightseeing from the buses.

When does the sightseeing bus operate?

For 2026, the published operating season is 1 April to 31 October. The Kanoni Line currently starts from Corfu New Port at 09:00. From April to May it is advertised until 17:00 approximately every 20 minutes; from June to September until 18:00 approximately every 15 minutes; and in October until 17:00 approximately every 15 minutes.

The Achilleion Line has a much more limited timetable. Current published departures are 09:30, 10:30, 11:30 and 12:30. Treat these times as a planning guide and check again on the day, particularly late in the season.

Line 1: Corfu City and Kanoni

For many first-time visitors, this is the most useful sightseeing route. The published Kanoni Line includes Corfu New Port, Kanoni, Mon Repos Palace, Anemomylos, Spianada Square, Spilia Square and the Old Port.

Corfu New Port

The New Port is the main starting point and is particularly convenient for cruise passengers. The City Sightseeing departure point is at the main gate, around 350 metres from the cruise terminal building.

Kanoni

Kanoni is one of Corfu’s classic viewpoints. This is the stop for views towards Vlacherna Monastery and Pontikonisi, better known as Mouse Island. It is well worth getting off rather than simply viewing it from the bus.

Mon Repos and Anemomylos

The route also serves the Mon Repos area and Anemomylos, giving you the opportunity to explore a quieter side of Corfu Town and its seafront.

Spianada Square

This is one of the most useful stops for exploring central Corfu Town on foot. From here you are well placed for the Liston, the Old Fortress and the historic centre.

Spilia Square and the Old Port

Spilia is another useful gateway into the Old Town, with the New Fortress, old market streets and Faliraki area within walking distance. The Old Port is also close to the historic centre.

How long does the Kanoni loop take?

The operator currently gives a full uninterrupted loop time of around 50 to 60 minutes. If this is your first visit, riding one complete circuit before deciding where to hop off can be a useful way to understand the layout of the town.

Line 2: Corfu City and Achilleion

The second route heads south from Corfu Town towards Achilleion Palace. Current information lists stops including Corfu New Port, Spilia Square, Gastouri, Achilleion Palace and Spianada Square.

There is an important difference between this and the Kanoni service: the Achilleion Line currently runs only a small number of departures each day, so it needs more planning.

At the time of our September 2026 check, City Sightseeing warns that only the outdoor spaces and Imperial Gardens at Achilleion Palace are open to visitors, while the museum remains closed for maintenance and restoration. Check the latest position before making the palace the main reason for your trip.

Where can you buy tickets?

The local operator says tickets can be purchased at its kiosks at Corfu New Port, Kanoni, Anemomylos, Spianada Square and Spilia Square, as well as at the City Expert shop in Corfu Old Town. Tickets can also be bought online through City Sightseeing.

What is included?

The current all-lines ticket includes 24-hour unlimited hop-on hop-off travel on the Kanoni and Achilleion routes, stops near major sights and recorded commentary in eight languages. Mobile and paper vouchers are accepted.

Is the hop-on hop-off bus worth it?

It depends on how you want to explore. If you have only one day in Corfu Town, are arriving on a cruise, have limited time, or simply want an easy introduction to the main sights, the sightseeing bus can be very convenient. It also removes the need to work out several separate local bus journeys.

If you already know Corfu Town well or mainly want inexpensive point-to-point transport, the regular Blue Bus network will usually make more sense. The sightseeing bus is best thought of as an attraction and orientation tour rather than ordinary public transport.

Corfu & Beyond tip

If this is your first visit, consider doing a complete Kanoni circuit first. You will get your bearings, hear the commentary and see which places you want to return to. Then use the rest of your ticket to hop off at the stops that interest you most.

Accessibility

City Sightseeing currently states that the double-decker buses used on the Kanoni Line are wheelchair accessible. The single-decker buses used on the Achilleion Line are not wheelchair accessible. If accessibility is important for your trip, confirm the vehicle operating your intended journey before travelling.

Things to remember before boarding

Services are seasonal and do not run year-round. Frequency can be affected by traffic, weather and events. The Achilleion route is less frequent than the Kanoni route. Keep an eye on the time of the final service if you hop off later in the day, and check the current stop information when you board.

They serve different purposes. The red City Sightseeing buses are designed for sightseeing around Corfu Town and selected attractions.
