Corfu in October travel guide cover: weather, what's open and what to expect

Corfu in October can be a rewarding mix of warm afternoons, quieter beaches and town exploring, provided you plan for rain and a tourist season that winds down at different times in different places.

At a glance

Question

October answer

Best all-round base

Corfu Town, especially later in the month or without a car.

Weather benchmark

Historical October averages: 23.2°C daytime maximum, 13.4°C overnight minimum; rain is a real part of the month.

Early or late October?

Early October offers a better chance of a broader resort choice. Late October needs more direct checks.

Beach holiday?

Possible beach days, but book a trip that still works without daily swimming.

What is confirmed?

Published October schedules for the Old Fortress, Archaeological Museum, Blue Buses and Corfu–Saranda ferries.

Big caution

Aqualand's public closing notice and its resort's partial-operation dates differ.

Checked

5 October 2026. Opening notices and transport schedules can change.

Our recommendation: choose Corfu Town for a short October break, or a confirmed open coastal hotel with practical access to town for a longer stay. Treat swimming and boat outings as weather-dependent additions.

Is October a good time to visit Corfu?

Yes, if you want sightseeing, meals out and time outdoors with room to change your plans. It is a less dependable choice if your entire holiday rests on water slides, beach bars, boat trips or a lively resort strip.

There is no single date when Corfu closes. A hotel's final checkout, a taverna's last service and a boat operator's final trip are separate decisions. Even neighbouring businesses may finish on different days. The useful question is whether the facilities you need will be available on your actual dates.

Early October versus late October

When

How to plan

What to avoid assuming

1–15 October

Keep beach afternoons and coastal trips flexible; confirm your hotel's facilities.

That every summer attraction is still operating.

16–31 October

Give town visits and indoor alternatives more weight; confirm dining and transport before booking.

That a late-season hotel booking means its pool bar, entertainment and nearby restaurants are open.

October half-term

Choose accommodation that works for children in wet weather and confirm the exact dates.

That a water park or advertised summer children's programme will run.

These are planning recommendations, not fixed island-wide shutdown periods. An early wet spell can interrupt activities, while a sunny late-October afternoon can still be enjoyable outdoors.

Corfu October weather: what the averages mean

The WMO World Weather Information Service, using Greek national meteorological data, lists October averages of 23.2°C for daily maximum temperature and 13.4°C for daily minimum, with 137.7mm of precipitation and 11.8 rain days. Definitions and averaging periods can differ between datasets. See the Corfu climate table.

Those figures describe the historical month, not a forecast for your week. Nearly 12 rain days does not mean 12 days of continuous rain, and a 23°C average maximum does not promise that temperature every afternoon. Check the current Corfu forecast shortly before travelling and again each morning.

Build a mix of outdoor and indoor plans. Put your beach visit, viewpoint or longer walk on the best-looking day rather than assigning it permanently to day three. Keep a museum and town-based lunch available for a wet day. During thunderstorms or strong wind, postpone exposed viewpoints, boat outings and swimming.

Can you swim in October?

Some visitors will be comfortable swimming on suitable days; others will prefer a walk along the shore. Air temperature alone is a poor guide to whether you will enjoy it. Wind, cloud, sea conditions and your own tolerance all matter. This guide does not promise a particular sea temperature or lifeguard coverage.

A beach remaining physically accessible does not mean its sunbeds, toilets, changing facilities or beach café are operating. Take what you need and choose an easy exit. With children, a heated pool can be useful, but get written confirmation of heating, operating dates and whether it is included in your room rate.

What to pack

  • Layers for cooler evenings and a waterproof jacket.

  • Walking shoes with grip for damp surfaces.

  • Swimwear and sun protection for suitable beach days.

  • A bag that keeps your phone and essentials dry.

One practical outfit for damp walking is more useful than packing only summer beachwear. A light extra layer also helps in accommodation where autumn evenings feel cool.

What's open in Corfu in October 2026?

The checks below separate published information from things that still need direct confirmation. They are not an island-wide list of open restaurants or hotels.

Old Fortress: worthwhile, but check which part you want to visit

The official Old Fortress page lists 08:00–20:00 daily through 31 October, with last admission 20 minutes before closing. However, the ministry's Byzantine Collection page lists an October closing time of 18:30. Don't assume an evening fortress visit includes the collection; confirm the area and ticket slot you want.

This is an outdoor monument, so it is better on a dry day than as your main rain plan. The highest viewpoint involves a climb. Visitors who want to limit walking should plan a shorter visit and check the accessible route with the site rather than treating the entire fortress as step-free.

Archaeological Museum: a practical wet-weather choice

At 1 Armeni Vraila Street, near Garitsa, the official Archaeological Museum page lists October hours of 08:00–20:00, closed Tuesdays, and last admission 20 minutes before closing. It lists a lift and accessibility facilities. Confirm your particular access needs with the museum on +30 26610 30680.

The museum's Gorgon pediment makes it a more purposeful visit than simply finding somewhere dry. Leave time for the displays rather than trying to fit it between several distant stops.

Aqualand: the important exception

The public Aqualand website advertises a 4 October closing date. Separately, Aqualand Resort advertises partial water-park operation from 5–15 October 2026. The notices do not establish ordinary public day-ticket entry during that partial period or identify every available ride.

Before booking around it, ask whether non-residents can enter on your date, which attractions operate and what happens in poor weather. The park lists +30 26610 58351; the resort lists +30 26610 58583. Neither notice is a sound basis for promising water-park access during late-October half-term.

Where to stay in Corfu in October

The recommendations below reflect geography and how easily you can adapt a trip. They do not certify that every hotel or restaurant in the area remains open.

Area and region

Best fit

October trade-off

Corfu Town, Central

First visit, short break, no-car travellers, sightseeing.

Choose carefully for steps, parking and noise; city accommodation may have no pool.

Gouvia, Dassia and Ipsos, East

Coastal accommodation with Blue Bus access towards town.

Check the hotel's facilities and nearby evening dining, particularly late in the month.

Benitses, East

A coastal base served by Blue Bus 6.

Confirm the exact stop, walking route and your accommodation's final operating date.

Kassiopi, North East; Acharavi, North

Visitors with a confirmed local base and preferably a car.

Check the practical food and transport options for your dates rather than relying on summer listings.

Paleokastritsa, North West; Glyfada, West

Scenery and beach time when conditions suit.

Have an alternative to boat outings; check hills, access and open dining.

Agios Gordios, South West; Kavos, South East

A specific accommodation stay whose facilities are confirmed.

Extra checking is sensible when choosing a trip around seasonal beach or nightlife services.

For a late-October first visit without a car, Corfu Town would be our first choice. If you want a coastal hotel, choose one because its confirmed facilities suit your trip, not simply because the room looks inexpensive. Compare the areas in our where to stay in Corfu guide.

Benitses village, marina and waterfront beneath green hills
Benitses, on Corfu's east coast. Confirm your hotel's facilities and the route to your bus stop.

Five questions to send your hotel before booking

  • Is the hotel open throughout our stay?

  • Which restaurants and bars will be operating?

  • Will the pool be open and heated, and is access included?

  • Will reception be staffed for our arrival time?

  • Which indoor facilities will remain available?

Then ask which nearby places serve dinner on your dates. Save the reply.

For families, include any children's club or entertainment you are counting on. Solo travellers may prefer an easy evening walk to dinner. Couples who want quiet can enjoy a smaller base, provided they are happy with its confirmed choices. Older visitors should prioritise the actual walking route and access over the resort's general description.

Getting around: don't use a summer timetable

The Blue Bus autumn timetable notice links schedules effective from 14 September 2026. Check for newer notices before travel. The airport route is No. 15, serving the airport, Green Bus station, San Rocco Square and port; No. 7 serves the Dassia/Ipsos corridor from San Rocco; No. 6 serves Benitses from the Methodiou town departure point.

The operator's ticket page lists pre-purchased adult single fares of €1.30 for Zone A and €1.80 for Zone B. Airport–San Rocco–port is in Zone A; Dassia/Ipsos and Benitses are in Zone B. Onboard tickets cost more. Confirm your journey's zone and buy before boarding where possible.

Open the route PDF, choose the correct weekday, Saturday or Sunday/holiday column, and identify both your departure stop and return stop. Save the last usable return before leaving. A late departure from the airport is not necessarily a departure from San Rocco towards the airport, and some services terminate before completing the whole route.

For longer island journeys, use the official Green Buses website and our Green Buses guide. A timetable dated May is not enough to establish an October return. If the current route number, departure and last return cannot be confirmed, arrange another way back before making the trip.

Our Blue Buses guide, taxi guide and airport transfer guide help compare the options. For a late arrival, get a transfer quote rather than assuming a bus will meet your flight.

Boat trips and a day in Albania

Ionian Seaways publishes Corfu–Saranda schedules for both halves of October 2026. That is evidence of scheduled ferry service, not a guarantee that every excursion runs. Check the return crossing, weather notices, travel documents and the local time shown for each port. The operator states that rental cars cannot be taken from Corfu to Albania.

Avoid putting a boat trip on your final available day if it matters to you. A spare day gives you options if weather changes. Ask a sightseeing operator about cancellation and refund terms before paying.

A flexible three-day October plan

Day one: town and the fortress if dry

Explore the Old Town and Spianada, then visit the Old Fortress if conditions are suitable. Keep the climb optional. Have lunch in town and leave the afternoon flexible rather than adding a distant beach that requires a tight return journey.

Day two: coast on the best weather day

Choose one coastal area. Without a car, the Blue Bus corridor towards Dassia/Ipsos or Benitses is easier to plan from town than a multi-stop island circuit. Confirm the return first. With a car, pick a beach or viewpoint that suits the day's conditions and verify somewhere to eat before driving there.

Day three: museum and a slower afternoon

Use the Archaeological Museum on an open day, then make time for lunch and another town walk when the rain eases. Swap this day with the coast day if the forecast improves. If Tuesday falls in your break, choose a different day for the museum.

What does an October day cost?

Use confirmed admission and transport prices as a starting point, then add actual accommodation, meal and transfer quotes. October does not automatically make every trip cheaper.

Example for two adults paying full admission

Calculation

Subtotal

Old Fortress and Archaeological Museum on ordinary paid-entry days

2 × (€10 + €10)

€40

Same two admissions plus one Zone B return journey each, tickets bought before boarding

€40 + (4 × €1.80)

€47.20

These are selected sightseeing and transport subtotals, not full-day budgets. Food, accommodation, transfers, other journeys and any ticket concessions are excluded. Both official attraction pages list free admission on 28 October; check arrangements for the day. Don't apply the ordinary-entry example to that date.

Accessibility and limited walking

Less heat does not remove steps, steep streets or wet surfaces. If you have limited walking tolerance, favour shorter town outings with regular stops, accommodation close to dinner, and door-to-door transport when needed. Avoid combining a fortress climb with a long coastal walk just because the temperature feels comfortable.

Wheelchair access needs a separate check: confirm entrance steps, lift dimensions, adapted bathroom details, vehicle access and the exact route to nearby facilities. A hotel being open says nothing about those features. See our accessible Corfu and limited-mobility guide, then confirm essential details directly.

The honest truth: what to skip

Skip the bargain booking that only works if summer facilities remain open. Skip a remote beach day when the return bus is uncertain. Skip treating a cloudy weather forecast as a reason to abandon the whole trip, but also skip insisting on a boat outing when the operator says conditions are unsuitable.

October suits visitors who are comfortable adjusting their plans. If daily swimming, busy nightlife or a full children's activity programme is essential, the booking needs specific written assurances. A quieter holiday works best when it is the holiday you wanted.

Frequently asked questions

Is Corfu still warm in October?

Historically, daytime maximum temperatures average about 23°C, with cooler nights. Your week can differ considerably, so use the live forecast rather than packing for an average.

No. Published October attraction and transport schedules demonstrate that activity continues. Individual tourist businesses still have their own closing dates, so check the ones your trip depends on.

Yes for a flexible town, food and sightseeing break. It requires more checking if you want a resort holiday built around beach facilities or entertainment.

The park advertises closing on 4 October; its resort lists partial operation on 5–15 October. Confirm eligibility and rides directly. Do not assume late-October access.

Corfu Town is our first recommendation. A coastal base on a verified Blue Bus route can also work, but check the walk to the stop and evening return before booking.

The Archaeological Museum is one confirmed indoor option, closed Tuesdays under its published October schedule. Keep a flexible town lunch and shorter walks for breaks in the weather.

Some businesses may still trade, but there is no verified universal October closing date. Get a dated reply from any particular venue you need and identify an alternative.

The ferry operator publishes October crossings. Confirm your sailing, return and document requirements. A scheduled ferry does not establish that an organised day tour is available.

Before you book

Choose the base, confirm its essential facilities for your dates, check transport in both directions, and keep one indoor plan. That is the difference between enjoying Corfu's autumn pace and arriving with a summer itinerary that no longer fits.
