South West Corfu

Wild Beaches, Nature & a Quieter Side of Corfu

Explore Central Corfu

South West Corfu offers a noticeably different experience from many of the island's busier resort areas. The landscape is characterised by long sandy beaches, countryside, traditional settlements and important natural environments.

Two of the region's standout locations are Issos and Chalikounas. Issos combines extensive dunes with cedar woodland and Lake Korission, while Chalikounas stretches along the other side of this significant wetland landscape. The wider Halikounas-Issos area is recognised for its ecological importance.

Other destinations include Agios Georgios South, Agios Mattheos, Paramonas, Marathias, Vitalades, Gardenos and Perivoli, offering a mixture of coastal holidays and more traditional village life.

The open coastline also makes parts of South West Corfu popular for wind-based watersports, particularly around Chalikounas.

This region is particularly well suited to visitors looking for space, nature, sandy beaches, walking and a slower pace of travel. A car is useful for getting the most from the area and exploring beaches and villages that are spread across the southern countryside.
